about

The organ mentioned in the title does not refer to the normal sustained sounding organ, but the percussive sound of striking a single wooden organ pipe. The sound is from a very low note that was salvaged from a church organ. Other percussion on the track is a gong type sound from a large industrial aluminium lamp shade. This track comes from my experiences of dancing at techno warehouse parties in London, although melodically it is much more drawn out than anything I ever heard in that kind of setting. I have always had an eclectic taste in music. I remember once in the same evening going from an orchestral prom to a warehouse party, and this piece takes a similar journey. The arrangement blends processed brass parts with synthesisers. Maybe a little influence from the Michael Nyman Band can also be heard. On the first drop of the beat Sarah Mann’s masterful trombone solo comes in; a strong line that nevertheless rides the baseline perfectly, sliding and growling in all the right places.

about

Oscilliard London, UK

Oscilliard make dance music, or more accurately, music made for dancing. Strata draws upon a global, kaleidoscopic range of dance for inspiration; from Balinese to American Lindy Hop, from medieval steps to cutting loose at a warehouse party, from the height of disco to arabesques at the ballet. The project is led by bassist and composer Justin Foster. ... more
